Quba Mosque visit

Quba Mosque is in the south of Madinah, a short drive from the Prophet's Mosque. It is known as the first mosque built in Islam: its foundations were laid when the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) arrived at Quba on his migration from Makkah to Madinah.

According to a hadith reported by Ibn Majah, praying in Quba Mosque carries the reward of an Umrah, so many visitors perform the ablution beforehand and pray two units of prayer there. The present building dates from a rebuilding in the 1980s.

The visit is usually combined with other places in Madinah. Dress as for any mosque visit, and expect it to be busy on Saturday mornings, when many people follow the Prophet's practice of visiting Quba.
